Translation

Translations Done Right
Too often translations, even professional ones, sound awkward and artificial, which can create a negative impression in readers and lead to serious misunderstandings. This is generally the result of attempting to reproduce the specific wording of the source text in English, rather than looking for the clearest and most natural way of expressing the underlying meaning.

For this reason, I adopt a holistic approach to translation that is sensitive to the various ways in which cultural and linguistic norms influence how ideas are expressed. The goal is to strike a balance between form and content, in order to produce translations that are not just accurate, but that faithfully capture the feeling of the original.

Classical Training, Intercultural Experience
Thanks to my background as a scholar of Ancient Greek and Classical Arabic philosophy, I have extensive experience producing precise and readable translations of challenging texts written in radically different cultural and historical contexts. As a translator, I employ these skills to help my clients create polished English texts that are enjoyable to read, while communicating their intended message clearly and persuasively.

Moreover, as a native English speaker who has lived for over 15 years in the French- and German-speaking worlds, I am well placed to ensure that the specific tone, style and cultural references in your text are properly adapted for an English-speaking audience – so that nothing gets lost in translation.
